About College Planning Authority's People

Kevin Campbell

Kevin Campbell - College Funding Advisor

Kevin Campbell is an expert in preparing students and their parents for college. He earned his expertise in two ways. First, he made all the mistakes high school kids make when planning for their future. His errors were plentiful; you might say he made them all. Second, he learned from his mistakes, got educated on the process and founded College Planning Authority; a company which helps students get into the school of their choice and save money on tuition.

As a high school senior, Campbell was overwhelmed by the college admissions process, the cost of tuition and his lack of career guidance. He gave up, went to boot camp and received financial assistance for college through the Marine Corps Reserve. However, he still didn’t have clear goals or direction. Campbell’s lack of focus and direction resulted in college performance that was less than stellar so he dropped out. Years later he returned to school with much greater success. After completing his studies at Southern Methodist University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science at the top of his class he became a successful entrepreneur, building several technology companies. Additionally, he also became a Dave Ramsey FPU Coordinator. Its was here that he realized his abilities to help guide families through financial challenges. Eventually, Campbell used his lengthy college experience, financial knowledge, and entrepreneurial talents to form College Planning Authority.

Today, Campbell guides families through the nerve-racking process of developing a strategic plan for college – which includes planning for financial aid, choosing a major, selecting a college, admissions, standardized tests and most importantly – saving money on tuition. He loves his work and gets almost giddy when he tells people he saves families, on average, $35,000 on college tuition.

When Campbell’s not hosting a free workshop on planning for college, he’s on a boat with his wife Chris and their two children. They’ve kept him afloat in more ways than he can count.

Craig Root

Craig Root - College Funding Advisor

Craig Root began working in a university setting when President Ronald Regan was in office and tuition at a four year school cost about a quarter of what it does today. Decades later Root is using his diverse background in admissions, student life, and alumni relations to help students make insightful college planning decisions. Root believes a student’s educational destiny is not a matter of chance; it’s a matter of choice. With thousands of colleges to choose from, his focus is to guide families through the college selection and admissions process and make it enjoyable and rewarding. Among his many duties at College Planning Authority, Root works with students to identify their expectations for educational interests, student life opportunities, campus environment and to help maximize scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

After spending time at sea in the Navy, Root earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northwood University. Upon graduation he went to work for his alma mater where he held multiple leadership roles including: dean of students, director of public relations, and director of alumni, foundations and major gifts. Additionally, Root is a lion, a big brother and a food gatherer. These unofficial titles come from his many volunteer works in the community. He is active on several boards and has held multiple leadership roles with the Lions Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Cedar Hill Food Pantry and others.

Root is the father of two grown sons, and resides in Cedar Hill with his wife, Denise, the Executive Director of the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation.
